The verbs "wish" and "want" are both used to express desires, but with one key difference: reality! This video offers a quick breakdown. ***NOTE: This video includes nonstandard/incorrect usage in a few samples. 1. The pattern "I wish I was..." is not grammatically correct (it should be "I wish I were"), but its usage is so common it's important to be mindful of it. 2. This video includes the sample sentence "We wish you would have told us!" This "would have [past participle] pattern is regarded as grammatically incorrect (the correct sentence being "we wish you had told us"), but many people may choose to use "wish" + "would have [past participle verb]" as a kind of softening expression.
