Join Amanda of Maui Tropical Plantation as she sets out to provide quick insight into Maui’s favorite fruit, the pineapple! https://mauitropicalplantation.com/ Located on 1,500 acres of farmland in a prime central area of the island, Maui Tropical Plantation invites you to visit their onsite farm stand from Kumu Farms, who manage their lovely pineapple farm. After collecting discarded pineapples from all the major resorts around Maui, Kumu Farms plants them by hand on the plantation, as well as harvests them by hand anywhere from 13 to 20 months later as they reach their ultimate ripeness. Open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm, learn more about Maui pineapple from the experts themselves, and taste test more Maui-grown goodness such as apple bananas, avocados and guavas. With a long and intertwined history in Hawaii, the pineapple was once responsible for bringing a whole new labor force to the island as plantations began to ramp up their efforts to keep up with demand. Today, pineapple remains a true island staple and is used in a variety of creative ways, including for the production of local beers, wines and spirits, among many other standard uses in farm-to-table dishes and drinks. Visitors to Maui Tropical Plantation may also hop aboard the daily Tropical Express Tour - held every hour from 10am to 4pm - for a 45-minute tram tour featuring information about Maui pineapples, coconuts, mangos and macadamia nuts. Get the island lowdown on how pineapple is grown, and what to look for to know when it’s ready to be eaten. Cruise along the sparkling lagoon, and treat your eyes to the natural beauty of Maui’s fertile valleys and plantation. As a final treat, be sure to stop by The Mill House to try the pineapple-glazed pork belly and a pineapple-infused, handcrafted cocktail with a view! Call 800-451-6805 or email [email protected] for more information about the Plantation tours, and stop in for a visit at 1670 Honoapi’ilani Highway in Waikapu during your next Maui trip.
