Reading books aloud with children is one of the most valuable activities parents and teachers can do. Read-alouds can help build literacy skills, expand vocabulary, improve comprehension, and introduce the joy of reading for pleasure. Can wordless picture books be used in read-alouds? We asked an expert! Meet Dr. Tara-Lynn Scheffel, a former elementary school teacher, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Associate Professor of Language & Literacies in the Faculty of Education at Wilfrid Laurier University. Thanks to Dr. Scheffel for sharing her expertise and to Dr. Lori McKee, Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum Studies at University of Saskatchewan, for her guidance on this project.
