That Quilon had been the main centre of activity of the Franciscan and Dominican Missionaries since the latter half of the 13th century is part of modern history. This is the only Church in India dedicated to the Patronage of St. Casimir. John XXII established Quilon as an Episcopal See on the 19th of August, 1932, making it the first Diocese established by the Holy See in the Indies. During the time of St. Thomas the Apostle, in A.D. 54, Kadavoor was a small community that embraced Christianity. It is said that Thevally was the Port at that time. The Syrian Christians who immigrated to this country traded. The Christian faith that already existed at Quilon was enlightened and strengthened by other Christian traders and missionaries who were passing through there on their way to the Indies. Who is St. Casimir? Casimir Jagiellon was a prince of the Kingdom of Poland and of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. After his elder brother Vladislaus was elected as King of Bohemia in 1471, Casimir became the heir apparent. At the age of 13, Casimir participated in the failed military campaign to install him as King of Hungary. He became known for his piety, devotion to God, and generosity toward the sick and poor. He became ill (most likely with tuberculosis) and died at the age of 25. He was buried in Vilnius Cathedral. His canonization was initiated by his brother King Sigismund I the Old in 1514 and the tradition holds that he was canonised in 1521. This video was taken on a mobile phone as I didn't carry a camera. Though there are issues with the stability and shakes, I'm surprised at the clear footage obtained on a sunny day. Enjoyyyy...
