In this video, I explore why the bible is not god's word - not the word of god, without error, infallible, or perfect. Much of the information I provide was helpful to me when I began deconstruction from my fundamentalist, evangelical Christian faith back in the late 1990s. My hope is to help evangelicals, or perhaps, "exvangelicals," work through fears that the religion has possibly instilled within them, especially the teaching (doctrine) of how one's life must be aligned to the words found within the bible (due to the teaching that it is the literal word of god). It is my hope that those who watch this video can find inner peace. I must give some credit to Bart Ehrman, author of "Misquoting Jesus," whose book helped me to understand some of the early history of the creation of the New Testament bible. Parts of this video were inspired by Mr. Ehrman's work. The viewer will notice that at certain points in the video I make use of bible scriptures in my argument. The reason I use some bible verses is because I found that I was bound in fear from misuse of scriptures, and I have found that this can be a great way to unbind others who may also find themselves suffering with fear from what they have been incorrectly taught. I actually feel that the Jesus we read about also quoted scriptures to undo fundamentalist, legalistic teachings of his day that was putting fear into followers much the same way. Video corrections: In order to be transparent, I have two audio corrections that I wish to point out. (The illustrations are correct.) I made an error when speaking about John 7:53-8:12; I should have stated 7:53-8:11 (instead of verse 12). In a different section of the video about Roman Emperor Constantine, I state that Constantine was converted to Christianity in 312AD. I should have rephrased this as he BEGAN his conversion to Christianity in 312AD after having a vision. He was fully converted, as far as the church was concerned, on his deathbed. I happen to think, given all that he had done to form an organized, orthodox Christianity, that he became a believer in the religion directly after his vision was seemingly confirmed, to him, by his military victory. While I still find the bible an enlightening read, I find it important to share that god is not the printed words, and its pages should never become a god to those who read it. It should never become a law to align one's life to, in other words. The bible is comprised of writings by different authors in their attempt to inspire, to point others to the divine. - Charles Musings of Charles ___________________
