KALLOS. The Ultimate Beauty | Abductions of beauty and erotic encounters

The attraction of the beauty of lovely mortals leads gods and heroes to pursue them, to abduct them and to lie with them or to possess them forever. Abundant are the references in myths to such cases: Zeus and Ganymede, Theseus and Antiope, Leda’s erotic encounter with Zeus metamorphized in a swan. In 2021 the Museum of Cycladic Art hosted a major, emblematic, archaeological exhibition entitled “ΚΑLLOS. The Ultimate Beauty” in which the multiple aspects of the concept of Kallos in the everyday life and the philosophical discourse of ancient Greece were presented. The exhibition’s units are accompanied by the respective videos. The exhibition was curated by the General Director of the Acropolis Museum Professor Nikolaos Chr. Stampolidis and the Curator of Antiquities of the Museum of Cycladic Art, Dr Ioannis D.
