CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A new report says there could be a hidden danger to a new way many watch TV. “Don't let binge watching turn into binge eating.” That's the request from child psychologists and nutrition experts at the Cleveland Clinic. They are warning everyone that research now shows that when people hang and watch multiple episodes of their favorite TV or Netflix show, they pig out. Child psychologists say this trend is especially troubling for teens. Part of the concern is that people tend to binge watch late into the night, and eating at those hours can stack on unwanted pounds. Late nights without sleep also alters hunger hormones, which can make you eat more the next day. What we are watching may also lead to a shift in emotions, which can bring on “comfort eating” or mindless eating. Keep in mind that previous studies have shown that screen time can lead to a trance like state, that makes your metabolism lower than when you are sleeping. All this does not add up to extra calorie burning.
