A one-week journey by foot & paraglider, starting on Aug. 5th The goal was to start in our hometown Salzburg and head for the Dolomites, moving only by foot or paraglider. Day 1: Philip and I started our trip around 11:30 from Salzburg city. Since it was raining the whole day, there was no way to get airborne. Very early on we bought umbrellas in a supermarket - we named them "Wilson" and due to our emotional attachment we can't get rid of them, even though we can't fit them in our harnesses during flight and have no more practical use for them during our trip. We walked for 20km and found shelter under a dry roof in Vigaun where we spent the night in our tents. Walking distance: 20km Day 2: Coffee & Tea for breakfast, then we ascended our first mountain - 15km hike. After a quick lunch we had a fog-free window to launch. Even though there were no thermals we flew 10km. After landing safely we walked another 8km to position ourselves well for tomorrow's launch-site Zwieselalm. Walking distance: 23km Flying distance: 10km Day 3: After waking up to the sound of cowbells early in the morning, Andi joined us and the three of us hiked up to Zwieselalm at the Gosaukamm. At the top we had a gigantic breakfast and met a local pilot who started before us after all of us waited for quite a bit at the launch site. After getting airborne we had to fight our way up but in the end managed to fly to the northern part of Gasteinertal with a cloud base at 2.600m. The best part about the flight was that we flew side by side almost the entire time. After walking to Dorfgastein and having dinner there we decided to hike up half way to Fulseck to position ourselves well for the next day. We spent the night under a clear sky in our sleeping bags. Walking distance: 12km Flying distance: 58km Tracklog: http://www.xcontest.org/world/en/flig... Day 4: We started our day with a hike up to Fulseck where we met some friends from our paragliding school Flugschule Salzburg. Then, Hubert & Johannes joined us for our flight. The cloud base was lower than expected in the beginning but with much patience we climbed up to 3.300m and crossed the main alpine ridge. Shortly afterwards we landed close to a public pool where we had our first shower in 4 days (before jumping in the water of course). Due to the bad weather forecast we ended our little adventure at this point and made our way back home by hitchhiking and train.
