Date filmed: Wednesday the 4th of December 2024 Videos filmed at: 10:37 | 10:51 Route: London Waterloo to Reading Line Egham (EGH) is the closest station Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barrier crossing with CCTV (MCB-CCTV) Filming location: B388 Vicarage Road, Egham (TW20 9JW) A busy level crossing located on Vicarage Road just east of Egham, Surrey. This crossing is now controlled from Basingstoke, but was controlled from Feltham until the massive re-signalling project swept the area about two years ago. The crossing's boom arms haven't aged particularly well due to bent skirting rods and a lot of paint being peeled off of some, but it's nothing worth reporting or would otherwise noticeably affect the crossing. There are four alarms here, but I suspect at least one of them (possibly the one I went close to in the second clip) isn't sounding, and they're not as loud as the previous ones that had quite a unique sound. This is quite a nice location despite the busy road, and the M25 London Orbital Motorway passes over a flyover just west and up from the crossing. At the time of filming, the crossing operations in the area had been taken over by the signaller as the 'crossing keeper' was having a break (these crossings around Egham are usually operated by a crossing keeper on a separate desk to balance workload). A Class 69 hauling just a few wagons passes in the first lowering, and the second lowering 10 minutes or so later was quite a long one with the crossing left lowered for 5 trains in total. I was watching their locations on Open Train Times, and there just wasn't enough time to get the barriers up and down in between without bringing at least one to a crawl or stop, due to how they came amidst minor delays. Still, I hope you enjoy the uninterrupted train action it brings!
