We take a look at the past to shape our future. In 1994, Danny DeVito sat down with Charlie Rose to discuss "Junior," his second collaboration with Arnold Schwarzenegger and director Ivan Reitman following "Twins." DeVito explains the appeal of working with Arnold: "He's very smart. Arnold was always eager to try out comedy that's out of his realm. It's not easy to do, the setups and lines, and he's always very eager to get in there and work." DeVito describes the "huge concept" of Arnold playing a pregnant man: "If you look at the picture, you feel the whole feeling of the perfect guy. This macho giant guy whose image is so embedded in our minds, he's exploring other areas. He's having a baby in the movie." The conversation covers DeVito's remarkable journey from a New Jersey shore town to Hollywood. He recalls growing up in Asbury Park: "Every summer was just packed. Seven movie theaters in four miles." He shares how he stumbled into acting while studying to be a hairdresser, learning a monologue from "This Property Is Condemned" to audition for a makeup course. DeVito reveals the story of discovering Quentin Tarantino and producing "Pulp Fiction" through Jersey Films: "I read 159 pages. I love it so much. I brought it to the studio, they didn't want to do it. Finally Bob and Harvey Weinstein at Miramax took it." On Tarantino: "He knows more about film history than any man alive." He reflects on five years on "Taxi," working with Milos Forman on "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," and balancing directing with acting.
