Have you ever wanted to make something from scratch? Emerging from the Maker movement, which focuses on giving people the tools to create, Steven Lucero explains how we can use the same flexible and creative model to make substantial academic gains. Steven Lucero is a Mechanical Engineer who manages the TEAM Facility at UC Davis. Steven utilizes his CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Machining) skills in combination with his background in Rapid Prototyping techniques to aid in the development of medical devices for use in research and industry prototyping. He also hosts a UC Extension course focused on CAD for 3D Printing and other Rapid Manufacturing Techniques and advises the Biomedical Engineering Kapstone Senior Design course at UC Davis. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
