In the 1890s there were 37 pubs lined on the just under two miles of Old Kent Road. Today, only two pubs remain. I went down a probably ill advised rabbit hole trying to find out about those 35 pubs - what were they called, how old were they, when did they close and why...? Thanks to https://pubshistory.com/ for lots of useful resources, and also to a pub historian named Geoff Rossiter who has some great research on the Layers of London site: https://www.layersoflondon.org/map/co... Here's the article on the Kentish Drovers mural restoration efforts: https://www.heritageoflondon.org/proj... This is a companion / addendum to this video, looking at the pubs which still survive in the area: • Old Kent Road (and nearby) Pubs Chapters: 0:00 Intro 0:25 Warning! 0:48 Methodology / acknowledgements 2:09 Bull 2:57 Brighton 3:35 City Arms 4:38 Bricklayer's Arms 6:44 King's Arms 7:10 Magnet 7:47 Unknown 8:19 Horseshoe 9:13 Kent Brewery Tap 9:47 Swan 10:24 World Turned Upside Down 11:37 Brunswick Tavern 11:54 Castle 12:35 Green Man 13:46 Dun Cow 14:34 Thomas a'Becket 15:57 Duke of Kent 16:32 Lord Nelson 16:52 Oxford Arms 17:35 Lord Wellington 18:20 New Half Way Inn 18:55 Alexandra 19:35 William IV 20:50 Bridge House 21:20 Britannia 21:54 Shard Arms 22:29 Horse and Groom 22:54 Half Moon 23:23 Manor House Tap 24:11 Turks Head 25:00 Kentish Drovers 26:22 Suffolk Arms 26:38 Rising Sun 26:57 Elephant and Castle 27:09 Railway Stores 27:46 Canterbury Arms 28:15 Windsor 28:52 Conclusion / Summary
