The remaining participants in the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran met at the UN General Assembly in New York. The European Union has decided to set up a new mechanism to enable legal trade with Iran, despite US sanctions. US President Donald Trump pulled out of the deal earlier this year and has threatened to slap sanctions on companies that do business in Iran and, given the number of European companies already reducing their business with the Islamic Republic, there is scepticism that the EU system will work.
