On this dive we encountered a stingray, lobsters, parrot fish, angel fish, spotted trunkfish, healthy corals and colorful sea sponges, plus over 20 sea turtles! These spiny lobsters have long antenna and are a completely different species than the cold water cousins. The spotted, smooth trunkfish, is difficult to catch and that is okay since it has a toxic substance in mucous secretions from the skin. The reef at Cayo Diablo is full of a wide variety of sea sponges, including pipe, tube, and vase sponges in a range of bright colors like florescent yellow, red, and purple.
