Architecture Model Making Tips - Part 2

Sharing tips for architectural model making that I've learned in my career building models as an architect (+ architecture student). Building models remains an important tool and part of my architectural design process. And with good reason, there's a feedback loop existing between brain and hand known as embodied cognition. It's been shown that our motor system influences our understanding and cognition in much the same way the mind can influence our physical actions. Architects build two fundamentally different kinds of models: presentation models (very finished versions of their design) and study models. Study models are sketchy and useful during the design process when we want to quickly study different ideas. Because they're less rigid versions of real buildings they allow us to explore and iterate quickly. You don’t need to start with a floor plan or an elevation design, the idea is to collage and 'sketch' using planes and solids in three dimensions.
