Scorched Earth: Lessons From Nature | Siddharth Srikanth, Peter Frankopan and Jeff Goodell in conversation with Gargi Rawat | Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Series Jaipur Literature Festival 2024 Supported by the US Embassy, New Delhi Many people think climate change primarily implies warmer temperatures, but temperature rise is only the beginning of the story. Because the Earth is a system, where everything is connected, every little change has the capacity to influence other aspects. Weaving through history and current politics, an illustrious panel evaluates the lessons from our past to better understand the impact of the climate crisis in our present and future. Peter Frankopan is Professor of Global History at Oxford University where he is also Stavros Niarchos Foundation Director of the Oxford Centre for Byzantine Research. His books include The Silk Roads, The New Silk Roads and The First Crusade. In 2019, he was named one of the World’s 50 Top Thinkers by Prospect Magazine. Jeff Goodell’s latest book is the New York Times bestseller The Heat Will Kill You First: Life and Death on a Scorched Planet. He is the author of six previous books, including The Water Will Come: Rising Seas, Sinking Cities, and the Remaking of the Civilized World. Gargi Rawat is a senior news anchor and environment reporter who has worked with NDTV 24X7 for the last two decades. For many years, she has been a regular face on the channel and has filmed several documentaries and environment- related programmes. She worked on the first-ever news show on wildlife in India, Born Wild, and anchored its Hindi version, Safari India, for the Hindi channel NDTV India. Rawat has also been editorial head for some of the best-known environmental campaigns carried out by NDTV, including ‘The Greenathon’, ‘Save Our Tigers’, and the ‘Banega Swachh India Campaign’. She received widespread acclaim for her award-winning documentary series on the state of the river Ganga. She has just released her first book Tiger Season, a work of fiction, which has themes of tiger conservation and environmental concerns.
