More than 300 people stood proudly on the highway that runs through both the Tsawout and Tsartlip First Nations calling for on the Harper government to repeal Bill C-45. Saying protests and blockades are one of the only ways they are heard, they beat their drums hoping for change. Central Saanich police were well prepared and set up detours to allow a consistent flow of traffic, but more than 2,000 vehicles were affected. The demonstration was part of a National Day of Action in support of the growing grassroots Idle No More movement. Observers wondered if the blockade had the desired effect as few cars actually were stopped at the site. Many who were detoured didn't even know why. People were lining up to participate in an evening information session being held at the University of Victoria. Follow Stephanie Sherlock on Twitter: / ctvnewssteph
