Pammal Sri Ayyappan Temple Details Deity and Principle The temple is dedicated to Sri Dharmasastha (Lord Ayyappan) and Sri Guruvayurappan. Sri Dharmasastha is described as Adhvaithi and the symbol of the Shaiva-Vaishnava union. He is the Kaliyuga Varadhan (Bestower of Boons in Kaliyuga) and the visible deity. Location and Construction The temple is located in Sri Sankara Nagar, Pammal, Chennai. It is situated in a peaceful atmosphere at the foot of a hill, between the hillocks of Sivanmalai and Thiruneermalai. Construction began in 2005, and the Kumbabhishekam (consecration) took place on July 12, 2008. The temple architecture is based on the Kerala style. The consecration was performed according to Tantric Shadadhara Prathishta by Manayathattumana Brahmasree Aryan Namboothri. Other Deities and Highlights The temple complex features separate shrines (Sannathis) for: Ganapathy Ashtabuja Durga Balasubramaniam Sivan Anjaneyar A circular-shaped Sree Kovil (sanctum sanctorum) for Sri Guruvayurappan was constructed in 2010. A unique feature is the Nagaraja-Nagayakshi Prathishta, which was invoked (Aavahanam) from the Kerala Mannarsalai Nagampuzhimana Tharavattu and is rare in and around Chennai. The temple has a 42-foot high golden flag mast (Pon Kodimaram) consecrated in 2015.
