BRITISH RAILWAYS IN THE 2010's North Downs Line + West Byfleet plus Specials 3rd + 9th May 2013 Over 2 separate days I visited firstly Guildford Station, just to see The 'British Pullman' train pass through with Steam Locomotive 35028 'Clan Line' plus the usual service trains comprised of EMU Class 444 and 450 on the London Waterloo to Portsmouth Direct route. Several services seen passing through on the North Downs route between Reading and Redhill were in the hands of DMU Classes 165 and 166. On the 9th May I visited Redhill and West Byfleet to capture on film Steam Dreams' the Cathedrals Explorer on day 1 of an 8 day tour, running from Kensington Olympia to Margate, Canterbury and back to London Victoria with Diesel Locomotive 67020. Redhill was particularly busy that morning what with the intense services from London Bridge and Victoria, and destinations around Kent and Sussex, in the capable hands of EMU Class 377's. Locomotive 59202 passes through on route to Acton with a heavy Mendip Rail freight train, and Steam Locomotive 34067 'Tangmere' pauses in the platform with 'The Canterbury Belle' sporting the 'Night Ferry London to Paris' Headboard on the front of the Locomotive, with WC Railways Locomotive 33207 'Jim Martin' providing assistance if needed from the rear. Later to West Byfleet Station to witness the 'Cathedrals Explorer' with Locomotive 35028 in charge on her journey to complete the first day of this epic tour in Exeter St Davids.
