Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2022 Volkswagen Taos, we're gonna be showing you how to install the CURT trailer hitch receiver. But before we do that, we're gonna check it out and make sure that this is right hitch for you. When it comes to Volkswagen SUVs in general, people we use them to do a lot of different things and I feel like that's gonna hold true as well for the Taos. And so if it we're me and I was wanting to put a trailer hitch on the back of my VW, I'd want something that it'd be versatile and you'd be able to throw a lot of different things at it. And that's exactly what this set up is gonna allow us to do. I've also, what would come to my mind, is I want something that would look halfway decent too. These are pretty good looking SUVs. And if it we're me, I wouldn't want some big bulky hitch hanging down here taking up a bunch of space and looking out of place and just an eyesore. And that's really not the case at all with this one. Really the only thing you're gonna be able to see is the receiver tube opening. And so it's really gonna help give that factory like appearance. With this being a class three hitch, it is gonna have that two-inch by two-inch receiver tube opening. And that is a really common size, ton of different things will work with it. At the end, there's a reinforced collar for a little bit of extra support and it is going to use that standard 5/8 pin and clip. Keep in mind though, pin and clip does not come included. If you need one, not really huge deal. You can always grab it here at etrailer. And these safety chain openings are gonna be a loop style and give us more than enough space, really to use just about any size hook that our trailer might have. As far as the hitch's weight capacities go, it's gonna have a 200-pound maximum gross tongue weight rating, and that's gonna be the amount of weight that is pushing down on the hitch. So that's good for those one and two up to four bike racks just to give you an example. I will say if you start getting into the three bike and four bike racks, you really start keeping an eye on the way to your bikes and everything else. You just don't wanna exceed that 200 pound limit there. As far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's gonna be 2000 pounds and that's gonna be the amount of weight that is pulling on the hitch. So the weight of your trailer plus anything that you might have on it. I do always like to suggest, though, it's never a bad idea just to grab your owner's manual. That way you can make sure your Taos can pull that much weight safely. And with all that said, if you are gonna be pulling a trailer around, you're gonna want the lights to work on it. That way you're safe and legal. People around you'll know what's going on. And to accomplish that, you can always grab some trailer wiring. Now I'm gonna give you a couple of measurements and you can use these to help figure out what hitch mounted accessories are gonna work best. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, that's gonna be about 12 inches. So if you do plan on pull a trailer around, changes are really good. You're gonna need to get a ball mount that has a rise in the shank. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of our rear bumper, that's gonna be about 5-1/2 inches and you can use that to help figure out that if any folding accessories you might have can be stored in that upright position without contacting your back bumper. Something that I do wanna bring up is this hitch is designed to work with not only front-wheel drive vehicles like we have here today, but also all-wheel drive vehicles too. So regardless of what drivetrain you got, the hitch is gonna work with it. Just to compare this one to another one available which is a Draw-Tite, not a ton of differences there. They're both gonna look pretty good. Personally, I think the CURT just looks a little more put together, but that's just my opinion. The Draw-Tite is gonna have a little bit higher of a weight capacity. I believe the tongue weight is 300. Towing weight is the same at 2000. So if you're really planning on using like a heavy cargo carrier, something along those lines where you need some extra tongue weight, that might be a better choice for you. But the downside to the Draw-Tite is it's a lot more difficult to install. You have to remove the fascia and some other parts to get i
