Surrey Eagles forward Holden Katzalay has been named the FortisBC BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Apr. 25. The Vancouver, B.C. native had eight points in just three games last week, scoring three times and adding five assists in three Eagles wins. Last Monday, Katzalay had a goal and an assist in the third period, both with the man advantage, to propel Surrey to a come-from-behind 5-3 victory over the Powell River Kings. He was named first star of the game. On Friday, it was more of the same as the 21-year-old opened the scoring for the Eagles with a first-period goal which proved to be the game-winner as they skated to a 5-0 win over the Coquitlam Express. Katzalay added a pair of assists to give himself a three-point night and the FortisBC Energy Player of the Game. He wrapped up his week with another three-point effort on Sunday afternoon, this time in a 5-2 win in a rematch against Powell River. Katzalay scored in the first period and chipped in with two more assists in the third, all of which came on the power play. He was named the game’s third star. After last week’s games, Katzalay is now tied for the BCHL scoring lead with 24 points in 12 games and his 15 assists are one back of the league lead. His Eagles currently lead the Coquitlam Pod standings by six points with a record of 9-2-1-0.
