One of my favorite areas of Colorado is the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado. The San Juan Mountains are often called the "Switzerland of America" because they are spectacularly rugged and high. They offer some of the most dramatic and diverse mountain scenery in the Rocky Mountains. One of the best ways to explore these mountains is with high-clearance 4x4 vehicles, which gets you deep into the heart of the mountains, to breathtaking viewpoints inaccessible by paved roads, and allows you to explore the rich mining history. This video was filmed in early June when there was still quite a large amount of snow on the peaks, and along the high 4x4 roads. The scenery is spectacular no matter what season of the year, although most of the 4x4 roads are inaccessible from October to early June. 00:00 Introduction 00:41 Drive to Silverton 01:51 Kendall Mountain Drive 04:43 Sunnyside Mine 05:07 Waterfalls 07:49 Animas Forks Ghost Town 09:14 Red Mountain Pass 12:00 Corkscrew 4x4 Pass 13:53 Molas Pass 14:57 Below Wolff Creek Pass
