The Anti-Poaching Dog Squad | Short Documentary | WaterBear

South Africa’s Kruger National Park is one of the last strongholds of the rhino in Africa and at 19,485 km2, it’s one of the largest national parks in the world. Patrolling this landscape is no small feat and its wildlife is under constant threat from poachers with over 1000 attacks each year. But an unlikely hero has come to sniff out the bad guys – Tracker Dogs. These specially trained hounds are revolutionizing anti-poaching efforts. These good boys and girls are turning the tide and bringing armed poachers to heel, helping to capture over 150 poachers in the 2 years since they started and saving the lives of at least 54 rhinos. The Project is part-funded by TUSK, which aims to support training and anti-poaching operations on the ground to protect rhinos in the wild. Their work is vital for the survival of the species, in this region of Africa, the epicentre of the rhino poaching epidemic.
