G'day guys and welcome back to The Ugg Boot Investor!! The world economic forum indicates that 10% of the global population owns 76% of all economic wealth as of the end of 2021. Meanwhile the bottom 50% only own 2% of all economic wealth. The Australian Bureau of Statistics indicates that for Australians the top 20% of retirees from a wealth perspective have most of the income derived from either investments or retirement fund (superannuation). Meanwhile the bottom 20% of retirees have the majority of their income derived from government pensions or economic outpatient care. We need to ensure we are not relying on the government help to support our desired lifestyle in retirement. This leads us to the Spiral of success. The moment you start earning an income your spiral starts. the Spiral line represents wealth or accumulated savings and the width of the spiral represents income overtime. The Spiral starts in the centre and continues to grow outwards as you save money. Eventually you get to a point where you can do something with that money. Most wealthy people choose to invest that money for long term benefits. For example regardless of your income if you are able to save $20,000 every year and you take that $20,000 and purchase an asset that produces an income your spiral grows. If you purchase an asset that costs you money, then your savings must be used in order to maintain that asset in your portfolio and this reduces the spiral. This is the secret to accumulation of wealth over the long-term and links to the original graphs from the world economic forum and the Australian Bureau statistics mentioned earlier. So consider in the future the next time you’re deciding to purchase an asset what effect that has on your spiral and whether that asset is contributing to your future income or reducing your future income.
