More than 2,000 Islamists from hardline Sunni group protest killing of two of their clerics

(4 Jan 2014) More than 2,000 people from a hard-line Sunni group rallied in the Pakistani capital on Saturday, to condemn the killing of two of their clerics, gunned down in an apparent sectarian attack on Friday. A funeral service for the clerics was also held during the sit-in rally in Islamabad. The two men were from the Ahle Sunnat Waljamaat group, which is linked to the outlawed Sipah-e-Sahaba group that has been accused of killing thousands of Shiites in recent years. No one claimed responsibility for Friday's attack in Islamabad, but the protesters blamed Pakistan's minority Shiites for it. Abdul Jaleel, Deputy Sectary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab said it was "shameful" that such an attack happened in the nation's capital and accused the government of not fulfilling its responsibility.
