On March 10, 2025, COST Action COREnet held a webinar on the intricacies of religious identity, with a specific focus on gender and age dynamics within the transnational Alevi community in the UK and Austria. During the webinar, Dr Umit Cetin from the University of Westminster (UK) and Dr Deniz Cosan Eke from the University of Vienna (Austria) discussed various aspects of this topic and the challenges facing Alevi communities in forging their religious identities in the context of migration, including: gender roles and religious expression; discuss how gender influences religious practices and roles within the Alevi community; intersections of age and religious belonging; examining how age impacts perceptions of religious identity and participation across generations; migration and religious adaptation; exploring how migration influences the religious experiences and practices of Alevis in the UK and Austria; diversity within Alevi communities; discussing the religious diversity present among Alevis and its implications for identity formation. This webinar, which was held in English, provides a unique perspective on the multifaceted nature of religious identity among Alevis in diverse sociocultural contexts and the significant challenges in sustaining relevance for future generations.
