Los San Patricios The Story of MEXICO'S ST PATRICK BATTALION

In this special St. Patrick's Day edition of Alice and Greg, we explore the deeply loyal connection between Mexico and Ireland, dating back to 1847 and the heroic sacrifices of John Patrick Riley and the St. Patrick's Battalion, also known as Los San Patricios. The St. Patrick's Battalion was born out of disillusionment with the United States' illegal invasion of Mexico and the common cause of rebellion against slavery, social injustice and racism. In this video, we take you on a quick trip through history to examine the historic roots of the connection between Mexican and Irish people, the story John Patrick Riley and the St. Patrick's Batallion, the role the Irish played in the Mexican war against U.S. aggression, and the ultimate martyrdom of the San Patricios. We discuss the ways in which their memory is honored in both Mexico and Ireland. Lastly, we share a legend about the origin of the term, "Gringo."
