Marcel Wittrisch, German tenor, in the 1937 recording of the Jan Kiepura film song “Ich liebe dich”. At the highest peak of their popularity, a young couple of singing artists, freshly married in Katowice, Poland, 1936, Jan Kiepura and Marta Eggerth arrived in Vienna, Austria, to work on their new picture – “Zauber der Bohème” (The Charm of La Boheme / Czar cyganerii), which turned out to be their tremendous success, both as actors and singers. Premiered 1937. Music for the film was written by no one else but Robert Stolz, who was also directing the orchestra for the disc recordings made at Austrian Odeon. Apart from many parts of the Puccini’s original music included to the film, Stolz composed two songs for Kiepura which he sings in that film, accompanied vocally in some parts by Miss Eggerth.
