Finally, the king’s sister Holika, who had a magical shawl that protected her from fire, sat in a burning fire with Prahlad in her lap to kill him. But because Prahlad’s faith was pure and Holika’s intentions were evil, Holika was burned to ashes while Prahlad remained unharmed. This is why we celebrate Holika Dahan the night before Holi — it symbolizes the victory of good over evil and faith over arrogance.
