China's president Xi Jinping has pressed his vision for an alternative global order that isn't dominated by the United States. Hosting 20 leaders of non-Western countries for what's known as the Shanghai Cooperation Summit, President Xi stressed India is a partner, not a rival. Beijing's long time ally, Russian President Vladimir Putin, seemed at ease amongst friends. BCA Research chief strategist, Marko Papic, says this meeting is important because it sends a signal to the United States that "the world doesn't owe it anything," and that "countries do have other alternatives." Marko Papic says India is showing it is willing to stand up to US pressure. He says India could actually replace the US market with China. He says India's conduct, which he describes as "geopolitically promiscuous", carries a lesson for Australia in how to conduct itself in negotiations with the United States. He says India is proving that it is possible to push your own interests and have a two-way conversation with America #ABCBusiness Subscribe: http://ab.co/1svxLVE ABC NEWS provides around the clock coverage of news events as they break in Australia and abroad.
