Would you believe me if I said getting a bunch of Piccolo related figures is what inspired me to make this video? Anywho, this is another Piccolo appreciation video but more in depth than my other one. Sorry if I repeat some of the same points from that video. I tried to reword those repeated points differently here so I hope that helps. If not then I hope the new stuff I bring up makes up for it! I actually had a segment where I talked about how great his character design is but didn’t have a place for it in the actual video so I’ll put it here in the description. It’s kind of crazy how well all of Piccolo’s core characteristics are conveyed in his design considering all of his elements. He’s a demon split from god and an alien martial artist on top of that. It would be easy to overdesign something like that but Toriyama was able to blend it all wonderfully. Piccolo's menacing face, pointy ears, fangs, and sharp nails convey his demonic ties. His antennae, muscles, and body in general work for that as well, but also tie in great with his alien origins. His cape gives him a mystical, otherworldly vibe to reflect his connection with god and his simple gi is all he needs to express his martial artist side. There’s a lot of pieces here but it all comes together in a simple, clean, and effective way. Kind of like the character himself, how fitting!
