Day in My Life: Hardware Configuration Technician (Deaf Professional POV) Sharing what my day actually looks like working as a hardware configuration technician and how I communicate effectively as a deaf professional in tech. *What I do at work:* → Manage ticket queues and job tickets → Install storage on network video recorders → Configure camera systems with IP addresses → Use networking knowledge from community college *Communication tools I use:* → Cardzilla - One-on-one conversations (large text, microphone enabled) → Otter.ai - Meetings and group conversations (works well in noisy environments) → Microsoft Teams - Team communication → iPhone Live Caption - Built-in support (but struggles with background noise) *Why these tools matter:* These apps help me stay connected with my team and do my job effectively. If you're deaf or hard of hearing and working in tech, I hope sharing these tools helps you too! *My journey:* This wasn't my original plan. I studied computer science, got rejected by 100+ coding jobs, and ended up in hardware configuration. But I'm learning valuable skills in networking and systems thinking that transfer to cloud computing, cybersecurity, and development. I'm still exploring my path and documenting the journey for anyone else on a non-linear career path. *TIMESTAMPS:* 00:00 - Introduction in car 00:08 - What I do at work 01:12 - Communication tools as deaf professional 02:55 - Skills I'm building 03:46 - Where I'm headed next 04:27 - Closing thoughts *CONNECT WITH ME:* → Instagram: @joshuaintech → TikTok: @joshuaintech → Looking for ASL interpretation services or accessibility consulting?
