Jesus: My background in leather comes from my father who was a bootmaker here in Texas, and my background in welding is because this is what we do in this town. I was at a project and I remember it was a spot that I could not fit into. My dad suggested "What if we make a welding hood with leather on?" Took it to work next day, I completed the job in a confined space, people started asking for it, my friends wanted it and after a few months of R&D, I ended up making it and selling it online. Ismael: It was something that was needed and it was something Outlaw Leather brought on to light, made it mainstream, and here we are nine years later. At the beginning, it was very simple. You know, as our customer base started growing, our design started changing, our design started getting better. We made a lot of changes going from fiber metal, to not producing our own. Yeah, that's where we stand at now. One thing I really like about the welding community, they're always there to back you up. They're always there to help. They take pride in what they do, putting your name behind a product, and letting them know that that's you that did it and you show it off. Travis: What makes a good quality welding hood is just the quality materials put into it and the construction of it. I've been on job sites where I've seen guys who've had our hoods for five plus years, and it's all the original equipment still on it, including the leather bib itself. So the craftsmanship that goes into is really what's going to make the quality of the hood and the longevity of that product last for a long time. We have over 100 years of leather work experience between all of our workers in the back and our painters. Also if it's painted from us, it's hand painted. Feels really good to know that you know, Outlaw Leather really has had this global reach. I mean, there's welders in Tokyo that rock it out there and we have guys in Germany runnin our hoods as well. So I mean, just to know that a worldwide our hood is being used and sought after, that feels really good. Jesus: We are the creators of the leather welding hood. 100% of our welding hoods are made by us. Everything from the shells to the head gears to the leather. Elephant comes from Zimbabwe. Fish comes from our Argentina. We have cows that are sourced locally. Ostrich from from Africa. And our quality has to be top of the line. I feel a sense of pride knowing that our welding hoods travel across the world.
