If you are starting with a small collection or even just one or two cigars, then Tupperware or even a Boveda humidor bag (link above) are both easy options. However, if you want your collection to grow, you may want to opt for a wooden humidor. We highly recommend the Old Glory humidor (link above) as it's both cheap and reliable. However, there are also more premium options too. If you do choose a wooden humidor, remember that you must season it. You can learn how with our video on the subject linked above. Next, you will need to choose the proper humidity device that will ensure that the humidor's environment is appropriate for your cigars. Whilst many humidors are sold with foam inserts and there are many gels on the market, these tend to be a 1-way humidity solution. We have used Boveda for some years now and we find their packs are much more convenient and reliable as a humidity device. Being a two-way system, it will absorb extra humidity and maintain a constant level. Furthermore, its membrane ensures that the humidity is evenly distributed within the container and cigars nearer the packs won't risk growing mould whilst those further away are dry. Finally, you will need a hygrometer or similar device for reading the humidity in the container of your choice. We have reviewed all the options available (link above), which range from digital hygrometers to smart sensors. We would recommend at least getting a digital hygrometer and not relying on an anlogue model as these are rarely reliable. Otherwise, we also thoroughly enjoy using the Boveda Smart Sensor, which is a bluetooth device for reading on your phone. Whichever device you choose, we cannot stress enough the importance of calibrating a hygrometer. Although many people use the salt and bottle cap method, we believe that Boveda's calibration kits are far more reliable for achieving an accurate reading on your device.
