L’exploration des fonds marins débutait dans les années 1950-60. Les recherches dans ce domaine sont donc récentes et, à ce jour, toute la biodiversité marine n’a pas encore été décrite. Pendant 10 jours, la goélette a accueilli une mission spécifique d’inventaire de biodiversité, dans la baie de Kimbe, en Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée. Afin d’aider les biologistes et chimistes embarqués à discriminer les espèces, autrement dit à les identifier, les ingénieurs du CEA Genoscope se sont munis d’un nouveau type de séquenceur ADN : le MinIon.
