You Can Grow Artichokes In A Short Growing Season

When we discovered we could grow artichokes in our cold climate (growing zone 4) I was so excited! Now artichokes are a must have in our garden each year. In this video, we share which artichoke variety we grow and others we've tried. In order to grow artichokes in a colder growing zone, you must treat the plant as an annual and buy the right kind of variety so the plant will put on flowers (artichokes) the first year. Most other artichoke varieties do not flower their first year and need to go dormant in order to produce artichoke flowers their second year. The varieties we share in this video do not require this dormancy period and will produce flowers (artichokes) their first year.
