Cyclone Montha: Ganjam Shuts Schools, Anganwadi Centre, Tourist Spots; Evacuation Orders Issued

In anticipation of potential Cyclone Montha, Ganjam district is undertaking extensive preparedness measures. Schools and Anganwadi centers across the district will remain closed on the 27th and 28th. Additionally, all tourist places, including the popular Gopalpur and Sonpur beaches, will be shut for the next three days as a precautionary step. District Collector V. Kirti Vasan has instructed all departments to be on high alert, as rain is expected to commence in Ganjam from tomorrow night due to the cyclone's influence. Public announcements are being made via microphones in every village, and 110 cyclone shelters have been readied. The Collector has ordered the evacuation of residents from all coastal areas by 5 PM tomorrow evening, with police assistance if required. Special attention is being given to Patrapur and Sorada areas, where there is a possibility of landslides; people from these regions are being moved to safe locations. BDOs and Tahsildars have been directed to ensure no one stays in vulnerable 'kaccha' (temporary) houses during these two critical days. Fishermen are strictly prohibited from venturing into the sea.
