Translate: Igarashi-san, you said you really wanted to win the women’s doubles title. How do you feel now? “It really feels amazing. I believe I couldn’t have won without Chii (Chiharu's nickname) as my partner. I’m just so grateful to Chii.” Shida-san, I’m sure emotions are welling up inside you. How are you feeling? “This was a new challenge, our first time as a pair competing in the All Japan Championships. I had such a strong desire to win but today my body just wouldn’t move the way I wanted. Arisa kept encouraging me, never backing down in her play. In the end I fought thinking, If I can just get the shuttle in, somehow she’ll take care of the rest. I’m really glad we won.” It must have been a very tough match with difficult situations continuing, but at the crucial moments, it felt like Igarashi-san suddenly shifted into a higher gear. Was there any change within you? “In situations like that we’ve often ended up losing before, and the physical demands are different from mixed doubles. When it came to those critical moments, I really squeezed out every bit of strength to keep going until the end. I think this was a great experience.” It really feels like a wonderful start. Shida-san, could you each share a word about next year? “Winning here finally puts us at the true starting point. next year, we want to work hard again so we can succeed on the world stage.”
