The OptiMate 7 12-24V is a smart fully automatic 12V/24V lead-acid starter battery charger rated for 24-7 use. It can be left connected to the battery without fear that it will ever overcharge the battery. Video contents: 00:00 - a smart fully automatic battery charger 00:13 - The AmpMatic program 00:25 - Temperature regulation 00:36 - Three charge voltage selections 01:07 - Battery protection 01:15 - the LED panel 01:58 - A special pulsed absorption charge 02:08 - Battery testing 02:45 - 24-7 maintenance program More: The Ampmatic program automatically adjusts charge current to match the battery's size and condition. A larger battery gets more current, a smaller battery gets less. Charging is also adjusted to temperature. When hot the charge voltage is adjusted lower. When cold the voltage is adjusted higher to help the battery perform better. Three charge voltage selections are available for 12V and 24V lead-acid batteries. The selection remains in memory until a new selection is made. The default safe charge voltage is 14.4V for most 12V batteries or 28.8V for most 24V batteries. High performance AGM or deep cycle batteries need a higher charge voltage. Some lead-calcium batteries also benefit from a higher charge voltage. The battery is protected against incorrect charge voltage selection. A flashing LED tells you to correct the selection. The LED panel indicates charge progress. Charging always starts at the 25 or 50% level. A battery with charge will progress quicker. The 25% LED indicates your battery's voltage, when connected, was between 0.5 and 12.4V or 24.8V for 24V batteries. The 50% symbol indicates your battery's voltage is 12.4V or higher for a 12V battery or, 24.8V for 24V batteries. Charge current is adjusted to deliver the fastest charge. Now your battery has reached a charge level of 75%. A special pulsed absorption charge is delivered, during which the battery's cells are brought to equal charge, improving the battery's power. Once charging reaches 100%, the OptiMate stops and tests the battery's ability to retain charge. A lead-acid battery's ability to hold charge is measured in voltage, displayed by the green, yellow and red LEDs. A sealed AGM battery holds the highest voltage, followed by a standard 'wet cell' battery. If the battery is unable to hold sufficient voltage, it may need to be replaced. However, there may be other reasons for a 'bad' test result. A battery in a vehicle or craft might be losing charge due to connected circuitry. Remove the battery and try again. The OptiMate's automatic 24-7 maintenance program monitors charge hourly, delivering charge only when necessary. This procedure provides the additional benefit of eliminating loss of electrolyte through gassing. The long-term maintenance voltage is also adjusted to ambient temperature, ensuring the battery is always at its optimal charge level. OptiMate guarantees more battery power and longer battery life.
