Whether you’re new to learning about the SQE, a current SQE student or take a passing interest in how candidates qualify as solicitor, this seasonal offering is a fun reminder of what the SQE is all about and how challenging it is! And in case you need an explanation of each of the 12 SQE Days of Christmas, here is a glossary: 1st : Candidates need to pass the SQE to qualify as a solicitor. 2nd: SQE1 is made up of two papers: FLK1 and FLK2, with ‘FLK’ standing for ‘Functioning Legal Knowledge’. 3rd: Candidates can have up to 3 sits for each SQE1 paper and SQE2. 4th: There are 4 oral skills assessments which form part of the 16 which make up SQE2. 5th: SQE1 is assessed by MCQs (multiple-choice questions) which are drafted on a ‘single best answer’ basis. There are 5 options per MCQ. 6th: Candidates have up to 6 years to pass all elements of the SQE. 7th: The SQE is examined at Level 7. 8th: You will need to work hard to prepare for the SQE, although Jonny’s reference to working 8 days a week is a slight exaggeration! 9th: Again, needing 9 lives is a tongue in cheek reference to how demanding preparing for the SQE can be, particularly if you’re juggling other commitments. 10th: The total length of the SQE1 assessments is 10 hours 12 minutes. 11th: There’s no fixed time to prepare for the SQE assessments, but it is possible to complete your studies and the assessments in 11 months – i.e. within a calendar year. 12th: There are 12 written skills assessments which form part of the 16 which make up SQE2.
