League instructor James Little discusses the stark realities of growing up in Memphis, Tennessee during the 1960s—70s and how this experience is reflected in his work. Little, a master in the field of contemporary American abstract painting, creates expressive artwork which centers geometric shapes, patterns, and emotive color relationships. Graduating from the Memphis Academy of Art in 1974, he went on to receive his MFA from Syracuse University in 1976. Since his move to New York City in the late 1970s, Little’s works have become part of public collections including the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; The Menil Collection in Houston; Library of Congress, Washington, DC; and the Maatschappij Arti Et Amicitiae, Amsterdam, Netherlands. In 2022, Little’s works were selected for the Whitney Biennial in New York City. Study painting with James Little: https://catalog.artstudentsleague.org...
