Garmin GPSMAP 66 - Map Layers For Turn By Turn Navigation

In this video, I look at how the Garmin GPSmap 66 series can handle turn by turn navigation. Technically, all recent Garmin handhelds can do turn by turn navigation (similar to google maps directions) - it’s just that you need map products that are routable. When it comes to handhelds, which are typically pre-loaded with topo maps, the pre-loaded maps are not routable. So the only navigation you can do is from point A to B, straight line or as the crow flies type of navigation. I’ll be looking at the GPSMAP 66 st out of the box maps (pre-loaded), 3rd party mapping product and Birdseye map layers and how you can toggle between the layers. PRE-LOADED MAPS 1. Base map - this is the least detailed map, usually country, state outlines with major highways. Can not do routable navigation 2. Topo V2 - this is an older map product that offers POIs but not routable. 3RD PARTY MAPS 3. Backroad map books - I bought via 3rd party a map product that is routable. Routing is enabled. 4. BIRDSEYE - this is the optional satellite images that you can download directly to the device. These are just image layers that you can stack on top of the pre-loaded or 3rd party map.
