This fall, you will experience a historical story about the Second World War in the Dutch Open Air Museum in Arnhem. Through impressive light projections, sound effects and illuminated paths and trees, you will experience this compelling story from October 18 to November 3, 2024. True story: Inspired by a true story, you will experience this special time through the eyes of a former resident of the museum. As a young boy, he lived in the Open Air Museum during the evacuation of Arnhem. His voice takes you through the park, past 37 light projections with all kinds of memories from that time. How did these Arnhem residents live? How did they get food? Did they have a kitchen? Did they have to work? Did children go to school? Forced evacuation: During the Battle of Arnhem, 80 years ago, everyone had to leave the city and an evacuation order was issued by the German authorities. Many residents moved to the north and east of the country. About 600 Arnhem residents prefer to stay close to home and choose the Open Air Museum, which is just outside the evacuation area, as a temporary residence. A cold and draughty accommodation that each generation experiences differently. An experience full of impressions Impressive light projections and illuminated objects in the museum park take you back in time to the evacuees. A special walk where this underexposed story really comes to life. Some 40 historical buildings and objects show all kinds of illustrated memories of the former resident. Discover stories from the past during a 1.5 kilometer walk and be surprised by sound effects, beautiful illustrations and the illuminated nature around you.
