I visited Dharavi, Mumbai – a place where over 1 million people live in just 2.39 sq km. It’s one of the most crowded places in the world, and what I saw there was both shocking and inspiring. Dharavi is much more than just a slum – it’s full of hard work, struggles and creativity. Here’s what I learned while exploring its streets and talking to the people: Big Business: Dharavi’s small factories and businesses generate 100 crore every year! From recycling plastic to making leather goods, these items are even exported worldwide. Water Problems: Clean water is available for only 3 hours a day, and people have to collect enough during that time to last the whole day. The pipes run right next to open drains. Open Drains: The smell from open drains is so strong, I could barely stand it. These drains are so harmful that living near them can cut 10 years off someone’s life. Tiny Homes: I saw families of 10 people living in a single small room and paying minimum ₹6,500 in rent for such cramped spaces. Paying for Toilets: Many people have to pay to use public toilets, which are often dirty and shared by hundreds. Talent: Despite the tough conditions, Dharavi is full of talented people – rappers, dancers, and artists who are creating something special. Life in Dharavi is hard, but the people there never give up. Through videos like this, I aim to show you the realities of places that are often overlooked – their struggles, resilience, and untold stories.
