Shetty (District 18) as she leads a discussion with Dr. David Hackam, M.D., Ph.D. (Pediatric Surgeon-in-Chief, The Johns Hopkins Hospital-Bloomberg's Children Center), Dr. Isam Nasr (Director of Pediatric Trauma Program), and Dr. Erica Hodgman (Director, Pediatric Burn Program) to learn about how the Pediatric Trauma Center at Johns Hopkins Children's Center is uniquely able to save lives from Cumberland to the Eastern Shore as the only pediatric trauma center in the state of Maryland. Emily Shetty, Member of Maryland State House of Delegates, District 18, Montgomery County. Emily Shetty is a progressive Democratic member of the Maryland House of Delegates, with a strong professional background in public policy and advocacy. Delegate Shetty serves on the Appropriations Committee and is Chair of the Health and Human Services subcommittee. She spends her days fighting for patients to get access to needed healthcare, and to help lower the cost of prescription drugs, and her nights organizing neighbors and friends to advocate for policies that impact them at the local, state and federal levels. She is also a mother who believes that every child deserves access to a high-quality education, starting from pre-school. Dr. David Hackam, Pediatric Surgeon-in-Chief and co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. David J. Hackam, M.D., Ph.D., is the Garrett Family Professor of Pediatric Surgery at The Johns Hopkins University, and Pediatric Surgeon-in-Chief and co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Dr. Hackam’s clinical practice focuses on complex neonatal surgery. As pediatric surgeon in chief and co-director of the Childrens Center, Dr. Hackam oversees all perioperative clinical operations that involve children, with a strong emphasis on quality and safety, programmatic growth, and system alignment. Dr. Isam Nasr, Director of Pediatric Trauma Program, Division of Pediatric Surgery; Assistant Professor of Surgery. Isam Nasr, M.D. is a pediatric trauma surgeon within the Johns Hopkins Department of Surgery and Johns Hopkins Children's Center. Dr. Nasr specializes in the advanced treatment of trauma and critical care injuries among children. He is trained in both robotic and minimally invasive surgical procedures, and is skilled in the management of congenital colorectal anomalies. He comes to Johns Hopkins from the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, where he completed fellowships in both surgical critical care and pediatric surgery. Dr. Nasr’s basic science research interests include studying the inflammatory response following traumatic brain injury in the pediatric population. His clinical focus will be on implementing systems-based methods to improve the care of the pediatric trauma patient. Dr. Erica Hodgman, Director, Pediatric Burn Program Assistant Professor of Surgery. Erica Hodgman, M.D. is a general surgeon with a specialty in pediatric surgery and burn care. She is part of the Division of Pediatric Surgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Dr. Hodgman earned her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of Texas – Southwestern Medical Center as a resident of general surgery. Her fellowship in burns, trauma and critical care was completed at the University of Texas – Southwestern. She completed her fellowship in pediatric surgery at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, and she completed her fellowship in pediatric surgical oncology at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Dr. Hodgman’s focus of research is based on adult and pediatric burn care, burn injury, pediatric oncology, trauma and sickle cell disease. #government #medicine #doctor #education #burn #johnshopkins #hopkinspossible #jhu
