Today we will look at the oldest photographs of Aleppo, Syria with a specific focus on the Great Citadel of Aleppo. This Citadel has a vast history, built upon the ancient mound, or tell, which shapes the very foundations of the city of Aleppo. We will look through the oldest and most unique photographs of this location, while discussing the currently accepted history of Aleppo from the 6th millennium BC through 1870. We will notice lots of abnormalities throughout, but the architecture is the key focus here. It’s immense, it’s mostly buried, it includes massive archways and minarets, domes of perfect construction, and the absolutely astounding mound - topped by the citadel.
