ViZARTS: "The Temple" - Utilizing AI for Virtual Production (BTS)

What happens when a crew of filmmakers and techies joins forces and utilize AI in a Virtual Production workflow? This is a look behind the scenes of our ViZARTS "AI and Virtual Production" Workshop at Aalborg University's VP Training Facility Studio at the Medialogy education (Copenhagen. Denmark, May 2024). Here we used a Vive Tracker and Unreal Engine to combine Virtual Production In-Camera Visual Effects workflows with the potential of AI, and explored how far we could go when using Generative AI in the Pre- and Postproduction phases. The crew also worked with physical- and in-camera effects (no greenscreen), a simple rear-projection screen, Unreal and Vive camera tracking. At our next ViZARTS hands-on workshop, we will continue the exploration - and this time we will exploit how we can use AI to generate 3D and 2.5D backgrounds on the fly, so we can shoot in locations from any time and anywhere (including imaginative worlds and real locations).
