In my conversation with Sade Fedipe, we explore the threads between community advocacy and education, and how new careers can emerge through happenstance. About Sade Fedipe Sade began her career in Primary Education in the United Kingdom, progressing into senior leadership and consultancy roles. She later sojourned in Northern Nigeria as an Education (Reading) Consultant, where her work highlighted how foundational stage fiction often failed to reflect the cultural landscapes of its readers. In response, she developed training manuals for teachers on effective models for Teaching Young Children to Read in 2008, before turning to creative writing to address representational gaps in literature. She subsequently signed her first publishing contract and released A Fun ABC with Cassava Republic Press in 2016. After returning to the UK, she found establishing herself as an author to be an isolating experience. In 2018, she founded the Kiddie-Writers Forum, a community for ethnically diverse writers. The collaborative network supports writers and hosts literature-inspired, culturally inclusive fanfares, primarily within museum spaces, fostering an appreciation of diverse cultures through storytelling in the interest of social harmony and wellbeing. In its fifth year of freelance delivery, the platform evolved into CALF-Events CIC, where Fadipe serves as Director. She also volunteers as one of six trustees on the board of the Essex Book Festival, contributing to strategic leadership within the regional literary sector. She holds a BA in Linguistics, a PGCE in Primary Education and a Masters in Creative Writing and Publishing. https://www.sadefadipe.com/ https://calfevents.com/ 00:10 Introduction (and how this interview came about) 08:40 Building from writing to advocacy 16:45 Having flexibility and working within the portfolio - and could you have planned your career? 23:58 What is core to making impact in your career?
