Learn how to make tangyuan at home (chewy black sesame dumplings)

This video covers all the steps needed to make perfect black sesame tangyuan at home! Whether for Lunar New Year or just a cold weather treat, tangyuan are a staple of any Chinese household. I also walk you through how to shake things up and add some colors/designs to your tangyuan. RECIPE makes about 20 tangyuan Filling ingredients 45g refined coconut oil (liquid but not hot) 35g granulated sugar 65g black sesame powder big pinch of salt Ginger broth ingredients 1qt water 3-5” knob of ginger, peeled and sliced small handful rock sugar, to taste Wrapper dough ingredients 120g glutinous rice flour 40g boiling water 50g room temp water **Important note about natural food coloring!!** A lot of natural food coloring comes from other things/foods so it carries its own flavor. be careful to not add too much (i always start with about 1/4 tsp) or your dough may end up carrying that flavor — unless, of course, that’s what you’re going for!
