This is a game from my childhood, the MSX tape version of Namco LTD's "Mappy", published by Bug-Byte Software and the Argus Press Software Group. More information about the game, and this release in particular, can be found on Generation MSX(¹) Since I played this mostly on our Philips NMS 8250 MSX2 homecomputer (²), I set the openMSX emulator (³) to emulate this machine, even though the game officially only has an MSX1 version. This video shows just the MSX boot screen and data cassette tape loading sequence. It's rather long, so I didn't want to include it with the gameplay video, but I didn't want to leave it out completely either, for completeness sake and archival purposes. This video is related to • [MSX] Mappy by Namco LTD & Bug-Byte Softwa... where I show how these bells are missing as soon as you reset your MSX system, while the rest of the game stays in memory, and • [MSX] Mappy by Namco LTD & Bug-Byte Softwa... which shows the regular gameplay, where the bells are present. There's also a short, combined, comparison video with text annotations available at • [MSX] Mappy - Bells, before and after reset If you feel like playing an unofficial version of Mappy with enhanced graphics for the MSX2, visit http://www.tiny-yarou.com/kaizoumsx_m... or read more about it on http://www.msx.org/forum/msx-talk/sof... or watch the gameplay footage by Tiny Yarou on • マッピー MAPPY for MSX2 This video was recorded using the official stable release of version 0.10.1 of the openMSX emulator for Mac OS X.
